I purchased a proper domain name so we have a permanent home and don't look like cheap skates, join me on TS I'll explain.

Damn, I just came on here to tell you not to buy domain names and such.

Chiefy and I have been discussing an alternative...maybe too much water under the bridge but he's going to contact Thacker today if he can.

It was cheap as, so go ahead and do whatever. I don't think Thacker understands that the free part of these forums doesn't guarantee the future of the forums. YOU'LL FIGURE IT OUT.

I dont care where we go (and many thanks to those who have spent money and time on all the forums), as long as we get one working soonish.

The one currently which we are posting on atm.

Is one that we will most definantly keep until the time where we get enough money to buy a Template. From there I only guess that you need to pay to also host the website and purchase the domain.

Once Sereval thinks its time to do so, Im sure he'll post up what costs are needed for this venture.

From there, those who wish to kindly chip in. Are more than right to do so if they please.

Ok let me explain to you two things you don't understand Thacker.

1. Surreal-Media provide TEMPLATES, not forums. This means they will make a pretty website, but you need to sort out your own forum software.

2. We have a domain, www.violentres.com, all we need to do is upload the template, purchase a forum skin from surreal, apply it to phpBB and we're good to go.

violentres.forumotion is and should be treated as a temporary home until we figure out what to do. I can apply this EXACT same skin over there and you'd never notice the difference, except we have a cleaner URL and appear to have our shit sorted.

So the plan is to use the Surreal templates and apply that to a phpBB forum. Yes?

So we have the domain of www.violentres.com which would be directed to the Surreal pretty lookin template, From which we have to set up a forum? Correct, Or does that have the forum and all that shit. We just apply the Sections?

Noooooooooooo Thacker. Surreal make the template, after that it's your to do whatever you want with it. They'll give it to you as a package (zip file, whatever), I'd upload it to violentres and it would serve the surreal template.

Secondly, I checked and they provide phpBB skins, this is good because phpBB costs nothing.

no offence, but www.violentres.com looks kinda gay. www.violent-res.com would be the more sexier alternative, if its not too late to change

Jordan, I guarantee when people go to type violent-res into their browser the last thing they'll think is how cool and awesome it looks, probably more along the lines of WTF do they have a hyphen in the URL.

Another thing is: if we ultimitely choose to leave here, which I guess Sereval had in mind, we're going to lose the data altogether. We should switch ASAP rather than wait because the "skin" doesn't look right.

I was considering doing this as I realized that these guys don't allow us to save our database.

Hey Sereval I know you didn't ask me to do this so I'm not going to push the point but we need to decide what's happening.

I've purchased web site hosting for a year, that gives us somewhere to put the template when we get it. and you need to decide on forum software. If it's phpBB then lets move to the new host, if you're not happy with the current URL of violentres.com, then we'll buy another one that everyone likes.

what could be better than violentres.com?

The URL Domain isnt really a problem. Its the software and the Template we want...

We want our website to look pretty, And for people to want to go on there.

That argument is insane seeing as right now we don't even have proper forums nor a permanent URL but if you would just get over the fact the forums don't look perfect we can start posting on the new boards and not waste time here posting stuff that's going to have to get manually migrated when we switch.
